Hi, I’m Emily Wildman (but more often, just Em)

I am a graphic designer and photographer based in Kitchener. I have a bold and adventurous personality and I love to meet new people. These are traits that I apply to my design work through active listening and strategic problem solving to arrive at creative and thoughtful artistic solutions.

I love gaining experience and knowledge through many platforms of education, and I am a strong believer in learning as a life-long process. I believe there will always be room for improvement and I thrive off of applying feedback to my work to enhance a final product.

Recently, I have taken a keen interest in learning more about accessibility in design. In the fall I am taking a microcredential course in accessibility to bolster my own understanding and to bring a more mindful approach to my design process.

In my spare time I can be found with my nose buried in a book, practising creative writing (I am a nerd for dystopian and fantasy fiction), drawing, and exploring new places with my family.

Skills & Proficiencies

Figma

I use Figma daily, it is a huge part of my workflow for many projects. In order to keep up to date with the ever-evolving platform, I make sure to follow the Config updates and follow tutorials as new features are released.

Photoshop

I first learned Photoshop from a photography perspective. This allowed me to not only learn my way around the program, but also to develop an eye for composition, lighting, and basic principles of design.

Illustrator

Logo and brand creation has been a big part of my freelance work. Illustrator has become my go-to platform for logo creation, and for laying out logos across different colour palettes.

InDesign

As someone who prides herself on organization, InDesign quickly became one of my favourite programs for typesetting and for creating technical documents, forms, and brochures.

Acrobat

When working within a bank, knowing how to create secure documents and forms is a must. While not my favourite bit of Adobe software, I have become well acquainted with it since beginning my internship.

After Effects

The team that I have worked with has been lucky enough to be equipped with a very talented motion designer, so I have not had the need to use After Effects as often for work. With that being said, I make a point of setting myself little projects to stay familiar and up-to-date with the software and feel very comfortable navigating it.
